At The Breast Place, we offer several oncoplastic surgical procedures, such as natural reconstruction, nipple-sparing mastectomy, Hidden Scar™, implant reconstruction, and breast lift with or without reduction. Oncoplastic surgery is distinct from both breast cancer surgery and plastic surgery–though you initially assume oncoplastic surgery to be a mixture of both. Rather, the aim of oncoplastic breast surgery is “to achieve good aesthetic outcomes for women with breast cancers who would have unacceptable outcomes with other BCS techniques, and in addition, enable breast-conserving surgery for larger breast cancers.” While breast cancer surgery prioritizes the eradication of cancerous tissue and plastic surgery prioritizes the cosmetic appearance of the breasts, oncoplastic surgery takes both of these aspects into account when planning for the final outcome. You can find out more information about what to look for in an Oncoplastic surgeon here.

Today, we’ll be discussing body contouring! This is sometimes known as “body sculpting” and is an increasingly popular procedure that aims to reshape parts of the body and reduce fat. By reducing fat in certain areas of the body, the body can be contoured and shaped. After having children or simply encountering challenges in life, unwanted fat can stick around no matter how hard you work. Sometimes, certain areas of the body do not respond to diet and exercise. Because of this, body contouring is a great solution for anyone looking to get rid of stubborn fat pockets. There are a variety of nonsurgical body sculpting methods, such as injections, the use of cold temperatures (known as coolsculpting), and the use of lasers. Here at The Breast Place, we use EMSCULPT NEO. This is the first non-invasive body shaping procedure that not only eliminates fat, but also builds muscle! If you’re interested in learning more about body contouring and EMSCULPT NEO, you’re in the right place. Let’s get started!
When it comes to procedures that remove fat, you have likely heard of liposuction– However, unlike these surgical procedures, body contouring or body sculpting is non-surgical and non-invasive. Body contouring is a procedure meant to eliminate fat, shape areas of the body, and tighten skin. It is used to target specific unwanted areas of fat, rather than a weight loss method. With that being said, it is important to keep in mind that body contouring procedures are not meant to help you lose weight. Rather, it is designed to address specific areas where weight loss has not been effective, or where significant weight loss has resulted in extra skin. Common areas that body contouring is used on include the arms, back, belly, and flanks (sometimes known as “love handles”), buttocks, neck, chin, and thighs.
EMSCULPT NEO uses synchronized radiofrequency (RF) and high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) energies to heat the treatment area. The HIFEM penetrates the layers of muscle underneath the skin. This, in turn, causes apoptosis. This means that fat cells are damaged and removed from the body. As the RF energy reaches the fat cells, they are disrupted and they release triglycerides, which are esters formed from glycerol and three fatty acid groups. When these triglycerides are released, the body clears away the damaged cells.
Additionally, the process of apoptosis strengthens muscles as well— The electromagnetic energies cause supramaximal muscle contractions, which are high-tension contractions that essentially force your muscles to remodel their original structure. As the RF and HIFEM work on fat cells, your body gets the effects of an intense workout. In fact, a 30-minute treatment with EMSCULPT is the equivalent of doing thousands of muscle contractions!
Additionally, EMSCULPT NEO is clinically proven to remove up to 30% of subcutaneous fat. Subcutaneous fat is jiggly fat visible just under the skin– This is how your body stores energy, and it is generally removed when you burn calories by exercising. However, this fat can sometimes be stubborn, which is where body contouring comes into play. At the same time, this treatment is clinically proven to increase muscle volume by an average of 25% with as few as 4 treatments. By eliminating fat and toning muscle, it’s like you’re getting two treatments in one!
When you first meet with your provider, you will discuss your medical history, including health conditions and previous surgeries. Your provider will examine the target areas, discuss options and make recommendations. Feel free to ask your provider questions about the procedure as well as ask to see photos of before and after results. We recommend having 4 treatments, scheduled 5 to 10 days apart for the best results. One of the great things about this treatment is that there is virtually no downtime. In fact, one 30-minute treatment can be done on your lunch break! And what makes it even better is that all you have to do is sit back, relax, and let EMSCULPT NEO do the work– No workout required!
EMSCULPT NEO is FDA-approved and has little to no side effects. During the treatment, many patients report a feeling of light “taps” or “pulses” on the area being treated. Afterward, some patients report temporary muscle soreness, just as you would see after an intense workout. With other body contouring devices, treatments may result in redness, swelling, or bruising. However, this has not been reported with EMSCULPT NEO. This is a safe and painless procedure that should be done by a licensed or certified professional.
As you can see, body contouring with EMSCULPT NEO is an easy, non-invasive way to get rid of stubborn fat and excess skin while toning and strengthening muscles. There is no downtime and minimal risks, and it can be done in a virtually painless 30-minute session! If you are interested in this treatment, contact us today to schedule a consultation and learn more. We’d be happy to answer any questions you may have! We are committed to empowering women, and we are proud to offer EMSCULPT NEO to help you look and feel your best.
