What are the types of breast cancer?

There are many types of breast cancer. The specialists at The Breast Place spend time talking to you about your breast cancer and treatment options.

Types of breast cancer include:

Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS)

DCIS means there are abnormal cells in the milk duct of the breast that haven't spread to other tissue.

Lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS)

LCIS refers to abnormal cells in the lobule tissue (tissue where breastmilk is made) of the breast that hasn’t spread to other areas.

Invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC)

IDC is the most common type of breast cancer and is a type of breast cancer that starts in the milk ducts and spreads to other tissue.

Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC)

ILC is cancer that starts in the lobule tissue and has spread to other areas.

Anyone can develop breast cancer, but it does seem to run in families. If you find a lump, have a change in the appearance of your breast, or feel breast pain, schedule a consultation at The Breast Place.

What are the treatments for breast cancer?

The Breast Place takes a team-based approach to care, working closely with your physicians to meet all your needs. Surgery is the primary treatment for breast cancer.

The breast surgeons at The Breast Place perform oncoplastic surgery, removing the cancer and making sure your breasts are beautiful and natural after. They perform different breast cancer surgeries, including:

  • Lumpectomy
  • Nipple sparing mastectomy
  • Natural breast reconstruction
  • Implant reconstruction
  • Breast lift and reduction

They also use the Hidden Scar technique, hiding the incision site so scars aren’t visible after they heal.

The Breast Place follows you beyond surgery and medical treatment, providing wellness services after your breast cancer. Some of these services include facial rejuvenation, laser hair removal, and Botox®.
