Coinciding with the last week of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Dr. Jennifer Beatty and Dr. Jennifer Fiorini, owners of and breast cancer surgeons at The Breast Place, will speak to groups throughout Charleston to generate awareness and educate women on the importance of being proactive with their breast care - offering much needed information on the best steps women can take before and after a diagnosis.

"We want women to know as much as about their treatment options as they do about early detection," said Dr. Fiorini. "The breast cancer death rate is on the decline but it's still the second-leading cause of cancer death. The more informed patients are, the more likely they are to act and increase their chances of survivorship."

On October 28 and 30, Dr. Beatty and Dr. Fiorini will be speaking with groups including the Women Veterans of America and Dress 4 A Cure Foundation respectively. These speaking engagements come shortly after the American Cancer Society reported that breast cancer death rates declined almost 40 percent between 1989 and 2015, averting 322,600 deaths.

"This decline is greatly attributed to improved access and options for treatment," said Dr. Beatty. "We haveve made it our focus to help improve outcomes by knowing what the latest in breast cancer treatment is and presenting patients with the best options available."

In the past six years, The Breast Place has provided breast care to over 6,000 patients in the Charleston area and delivers some of the most advanced procedures and therapies for removing and treating breast cancer. This month, The Breast Place celebrated their six-year anniversary as South Carolina's only independent and privately-owned breast health facility - continuing to equip women with the knowledge needed to detect, treat, and prevent breast cancer.
