If this is your first visit to The Breast Place blog, we welcome you. We cover a range of topics here. From breast cancer management to anti-aging skin treatments to helpful tips for maximizing your overall health and wellness—The Breast Place is committed to sharing the best health practices and treatment options with you! Our offices are open and our staff is prepared to answer any questions you may have about your health, your breast cancer risk, and how to reach your aesthetic goals.
At The Breast Place, we offer several oncoplastic surgical procedures, such as natural reconstruction, nipple-sparing mastectomy, Hidden Scar™, implant reconstruction, and breast lift with or without reduction. Oncoplastic surgery is distinct from both breast cancer surgery and plastic surgery–though you initially assume oncoplastic surgery to be a mixture of both. Rather, the aim of oncoplastic breast surgery is “to achieve good aesthetic outcomes for women with breast cancers who would have unacceptable outcomes with other BCS techniques, and in addition, enable breast-conserving surgery for larger breast cancers.” While breast cancer surgery prioritizes the eradication of cancerous tissue and plastic surgery prioritizes the cosmetic appearance of the breasts, oncoplastic surgery takes both of these aspects into account when planning for the final outcome. You can find out more information about what to look for in an Oncoplastic surgeon here.
Our last article discussed body contouring with EMSCULPT NEO! Body contouring is an increasingly popular procedure that aims to reshape parts of the body and reduce fat. There are a variety of nonsurgical body contouring methods, such as injections and coolsculpting. Here at The Breast Place, we use EMSCULPT NEO, the first non-invasive body shaping procedure that not only eliminates fat but also builds muscle! If you are interested in learning more about this procedure, check out our last post!
Before we continue with today’s topic, we’d like to make you aware of what we have to offer at The Breast Place this month. It’s July, summer is underway, and it’s certainly a hot one! Our product of the month for July is EltaMD sunscreen. EltaMD sunscreens help prevent sunburn and decrease the risk of skin cancer because they are formulated with zinc oxide, which helps heal damaged skin. Don’t worry– These products are transparent, so they won’t leave a white residue behind. They are also noncomedogenic, fragrance-free, and paraben free. Protect your skin from the sun by stopping by our office and purchasing EltaMD sunscreen! We can even ship products directly to your door! You can learn more about the products we offer by visiting our website.
Today, we’ll be taking a look at some DIY face masks that can easily be made at home. We began this discussion in a previous post where we broke down a few mask recipes and discussed how the ingredients were beneficial to the skin. We’ve gathered a few more DIY mask recipes and will be breaking down how the ingredients work to promote healthy, glowing skin! Face masks can enhance your skincare routine and give your skin the moisture and nutrients it needs. If you’re interested in learning more, stick around! Let’s get right into it.
Acne-Fighting Mask
If you suffer from acne, you have likely tried many different products to combat it. Luckily, this homemade face mask can be made with just two ingredients that will help soothe and clear your skin. Here are the two magic ingredients:
Mix the turmeric and honey together and spread a thin layer all over your face. Let sit for 10 to 15 minutes, and then rinse off with warm water.
Why this mask works: Turmeric has been linked to healing properties and cosmetic benefits for years. It is a bright yellow-orange spice related to ginger and is available as a ground spice or in supplements. Turmeric contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, which can target pores and calm the skin. It is also known to help minimize the appearance of acne scarring. Honey has antibacterial and antiseptic properties, and can also speed up your cells’ healing processes. It is also a natural exfoliator, which means it gently removes dead skin cells that may be clogging pores.
Moisturizing Mask
For those with dry skin, there are plenty of ingredients out there that can give your skin the moisture it craves. This mask utilizes three simple ingredients that are packed with benefits:
Put the coconut oil in the microwave for about 5 seconds to allow it to turn into a liquid. Then, mix it with the honey and yogurt until all three ingredients are thoroughly blended. Apply a layer to the skin and let sit for ten to fifteen minutes, before rinsing it off. Pat your face dry and follow up with your favorite moisturizer.
Why this mask works: Coconut oil is a highly saturated oil made from extracting oil from raw coconuts, and it is packed with benefits. It can reduce inflammation, making it beneficial for dry, irritated skin. It also increases hydration by supporting your skin’s protective barrier layer, which traps moisture inside and keeps your skin hydrated. Not only is honey naturally soothing, but it also has moisturizing properties. Honey is known as a humectant, or moisturizing agent. It can both draw out and retain moisture, which hydrates and plumps the skin. Plain yogurt has key nutrients and skin care benefits. Plain yogurt’s texture can help lock moisture into the skin. It also has probiotics that will help strengthen and restore your skin’s natural barrier.
Soothing and Hydrating Mask
If you have dry, flaky skin, this mask is for you. With three simple ingredients, irritation will be soothed, your skin will be hydrated, and it will receive beneficial vitamins and nutrients. Here are the ingredients:
Peel the banana and mash it up until it is smooth. Add the aloe vera gel and mix the two together until it forms a smooth paste. Add the almond oil, and then apply it to your face. Let sit for 15 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water.
Why this mask works: Bananas contain a variety of nutrients that can benefit the skin, including potassium, Vitamin B-6, Vitamin C, and Vitamin A. Bananas also contain silica, which promotes the production of collagen. Although potassium cannot be absorbed through the skin, it can enhance the moisture of the skin. Vitamin B-6 also helps synthesize collagen and can help clear acne. Vitamin C is known to prevent early skin aging and improve the appearance of wrinkles, dark spots, and acne. Vitamin A speeds up healing, and promotes natural moisturization, giving it a radiant glow. It also helps maintain the top two layers of your skin. Aloe vera helps seal moisture into the skin and is well known for its healing properties. Almond oil also helps soothe and hydrate dry skin. It can also help improve complexion and skin tone.
These are just a few more of the DIY face masks that you can easily make with ingredients at home! Feel free to research more ingredients for face masks to create your own, one-of-a-kind mask! Face masks are a great way to practice self-care while promoting healthy skin at the same time. Of course, we’d like to remind you that you should avoid ingredients that you are allergic to.
